Classic Christmas Movies

When it comes to Christmas, which is my favorite time of the year, I love watching old classic Christmas movies. Here's my countdown to the top five best Christmas movies that everyone should watch.

Number Five: White Christmas

If you're in the mood for some Bing Crosby cross-dressing then this is the movie for you! Yes, you heard me cross-dressing. Bing Crosby plays Bob Wallace, a singer who partners up with Danny Kaye who plays Phil Davis and a sister act Rosemary Clooney who plays Betty Haynes and Vera Ellen who plays Judy Haynes to perform a musical in rural Vermont. It gives you a backstory to Bob and Phil's life during World War II and how they became big after.

Number Four: The Bishop's Wife

I'm a sucker for a Cary Grant movie, I mean my favorite is Bringing Up Baby. This movie is about a Bishop (David Niven) who wants to build a cathedral and prays for guidance then along come Cary Grant who plays an angel named Dudley. Dudley intervenes into Bishop Henry's life and becomes his assistant. Loretta Young who plays the Bishop's wife becomes attracted Dudley, which makes Bishop Henry question heaven.

Number Three: The Bells of Saint Mary's

So if you loved White Christmas, which you should then you love this movie. There's a prequel if you want to see more Bing Crosby but this movie can stand alone. Ingrid Bergman plays a headmistress named Sister Mary who teachers at a Roman Catholic Inner-City School. Bing Crosby who plays Father O'Malley transfer to the school and believes that school is failing and should be abandoned and the children should go to other school while headmistress and the other nuns believe not. This movie brings the Christmas spirit in your heart and assures you that you must always have faith.

Number Two: It Happened on Fifth Avenue

If you love Cary Grant like I do then you'll love Don DeFore in this movie. It's about Charlie Ruggles who plays a rich man named Mike O'Connor who leaves his mansion in New York to stay in Virginia for Christmas. Since his home is vacant a squatter named Mac McKeever played by Victor Moore decides to live there for a while. Don DeFore character Jim who is unemployed need a place to stay so Mac lets him in. Eventually more come to stay like Mike's daughter Trudy played by Gale Storm who falls for Jim. Everyone loves a love story mixed with a Christmas one.

Number One: It's a Wonderful Life

Now if you never see the other four I won't judge you, well maybe a little, but if you never see this movie well I'm for sure judging you because this is the ultimate classic. Jimmy Stewart plays George Bailey who wishes that he has never been born and an angel is sent to him to show George how much he has impacted everyone's life. "Every time a bell rings an angel gets it's wings."

I do hope you watch these classic Christmas movies because they are the bases for every Christmas movie we see out there. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Keep looking for more classic movies, tv, and books.
